Lately I’ve been walking around with a notebook and pen everywhere I go like a crazy person, looking for inspiration in almost anything. Creativity is a gift, a gift that most of us have, but some have to work harder at unleashing it more than others. On my recent mission to discover a new level of creativity in my life, I’ve actually discovered a few other things:
Peanut Butter. Most people either love it or hate it, but whatever way you slice it, it’s still peanut butter. You can add it to things, add things to it, but however you use it, it still has a very definitive taste that just stands out. Being creative with your events doesn’t mean you have to re-invent the wheel every time. It’s simply just about standing out. It’s about making your event uniquely you, adding whatever flavor you like, but still achieving a clear representation of you, your message, and leaving your attendees with precisely the experience your event was intended for.
For someone as analytical as I am, this is a hard one. I could have the best event idea for concept that I get really excited about. However, if I start overthinking everything and literally pick my idea a part so much with all of the possible things that could go wrong, I can end up talking myself completely out of doing the event at all! Of course, risk assessment and do diligence are both important parts of the discovery process, but what I’ve actually discovered is that event planning often just takes a lot of faith. A lot of the time, you just have to let go, and trust your creative gut over your analytical mind. I’m definitely not saying let your creative imagination take over completely, as there is obviously a precise method and form to executing great events. I’m just saying don’t talk yourself out of too many awesome ideas.
Don’t under-estimate the power of you. I think the more you showcase you, your brand, and your personality through your events, the more creative and unique your events become. We all know that there are no two people alike in this world, and that is precisely what makes every event different than the next. The more you are you, the more you discover how uniquely different you are. And what better way to showcase that than through your events.
